but nothing else will save us. In their letter to the Prime Minister the Association of British Chambers of Commerce, while asking for the abolition of the Excess Profits Duty, demand that the next Budget shall not exceed 910 millions. We sincerely hope that such a figure may be possible. When we take the figure of 950 millions as part of the triple barrier we do so first because it has been mentioned by Sir George Younger, and therefore associates the Government with it, and secondly because it is just as well to set a perfectly reasonable maximum amount. If the Budget can be reduced below that amount, and of course thrift organizations must work to this end, all the better.
