SCOTLAND.
At a meeting of the Magistrates and Town-Council of Ayr, to con- sider Sir Robert Peel's Currency Bill, it was resolved, " that the inevitable consequence of the provisions of this measure, when applied to Scotland, would be to lead to a total change in the present system of banking, which the long experience and practical good sense of the nation have taught them to be attended with the most beneficial results in promoting the wealth and advancement of the people."
A tablet to the late Sir David Wilkie has been erected by his sister in the church of Cults, Fifeshire : the likeness on the tablet is said to be very striking. Near to this monument is another to Sir David's father and mother, by Chantrey.
A distressing accident happened on Saturday to a pleasure-party at the Falls of Clyde, near Lanark. Mrs. Baxter being left for a moment by her husband and friends, it is supposed she fainted or slipped into the water : her body was found in the river on the following day.
