Enoch and the 'Forks

Sir: I was much interested in your recent articles, 'Enoch and the Tories', they being balm to his supporters fortunate enough to read them. But the overall picture remains, to me certainly, uncommonly bleak.

This democratic nation, under stress, seems unable to elect as representative a man possessing what is possibly one of the most logical and far-seeing intellects that has been placed at our service for twenty or more years. Add to this cool judgement, the knowledge of a professional scholar, and untiring energy and enthusiasm in the service of his country. But those who have power to do so have not yet, it seems, invited Mr Powell to be ready to take the first opportunity to stand again for Parliament.

We hope that these people in Smith Square will listen to what ordinary, innumerable people in the nation (of every political allegiance) are saying, and saying with conviction: "He's right, you know! Enoch's right in these matters!"
