The Canton of Geneva has voted -the law ordering the

Cures to be elected by the people bya, vote of some 9,000 voters against few or none. The Catholic voters, who are saidnot.to exceed 6,000, all abstained from the. poll. But though the Catholics were-in the minority on the.eleetoral list, they,seem.to be in the majority in the population,—the returns in 1860 .show- Mg a population of.42,300 Catholics to 41,000 Protestants. If this be still the proportion, we should fear popular riots-as a. result of any attempt to enforce the new law.
