SID,—Thirty years ago, on walking one morning with Mr. Meredith from the Garrick Club to Covent Garden, I ventured to suggest that his want of popularity might in part be due to eccentricities of style; and perhaps his very friendly reception of what I had to say encouraged me to speak too freely.
