The metre of 'From the Wave' suggests the rhythm of the sea but contains it; 'Moly' itself, the monologue of one of Circe's pigs, beginning as little more than a series of grunts, acquires as it develops the precision and symmetry of a sequence of epigrams. The forms used are forms of the conscious intelligence, their movement informed, but not dominated, by the energies they describe: 'with a learn'd skill' they ride free of the wave.
