The wrong target

From Chris Baxter Sir: James Delingpole's article on the necessity of supporting the current occupation of Iraq is compelling ('Cursed are the peaceniks', 22 May), but it contains a fundamental flaw. WMD are not the issue; he suggests that the West is, or should be, at war with Islamofacism', and I concede that military action in such a war may well be necessary. But Iraq was one of the few countries in that area with no flourishing Islamic militancy, and the current actions of the Americans have ensured that this has now taken root.

If fighting `Islamofacism' was the underlying reason for this war, I would have expected the Americans to have picked an Islamofacist' target, not the only country in the area which might have provided support! But what do I know of international politics? Perhaps this is a clever trick to move large numbers of American weapons into Iraq so that Saddam (or a new placeman) can revive the fight with Iran once again?
