NEWS OF THE WEEK.

ON Thursday it was announced that the Government had issued a Proclamation suppressing the Sinn Fein and kindred organizations in all parts of Ireland. The Proclamation is issued under the Crimes Act of 1887. The Sinn Fein organ- ization, the Sinn Fein clubs, the Irish Volunteers, the Cumaim Na Mban, and the Gaelic League are the bodies specifically outlawed. The Government are now doing what they should have done two years ago. Instead they not only pursued the miserable policy of tolerating a system which openly proclaimed itself as the true Government of Ireland, but they even pardoned the leaders of the Sinn Feiners who had been condemned as guilty of the gravest crimes threatening the very existence of the British Empire, without exacting from them promises of good behaviour in the future.
