GOLF RECORDS

SIR,—This brief item. in your issue of October 4, intrigues:

A Leicestershire man broke the world speed golf record, doing an eighteen-hole round in forty-one minutes.

May 1 have further details, please? The length of the course; a championship one? His score? Did he accomplish the feat on foot or did he zip around the course on a bright, sunny day in an electric buggy? Did he carry his own full set of clubs, or, sensibly, hire a caddy? A favourite charity stands to gain handsomely from some respectable wagers laid in the locker room last evening.

[The golfer was Mr. Robert Taylor, whose handicap is five. The course Scraptoft, 6,100 yards. He took ninety-four strokes, sprinted round in plimsolls carrying a number five iron and a putter. Mr. Taylor is eighteen and an advertising agent.— Editor, Spectator.]
