THE BISHOP OF MANCHESTER AND MR. GREEN [To THE EDITOR

OF THE "SPECTATOR."]

SIR,—In last Saturday's Spectator you say, "At the Manchester Diocesan Conference, a sitting was devoted to the discussion of the course taken by the Bishop in relation to Mr. Green." This is not the case. The subject was only introduced by the Bishop himself, when summing up at the close of the Conference, all discussion being, necessarily, precluded.

It is more than probable that, in the paragraph to which I refer, your remarks on the conduct of Mr. Green would have been worded somewhat differently, had he been able to speak for himself, or had his friends been able to do so on his behalf.—I am, Sir, &c., HENRY R. HEYWOOD, Vicar of Swinton, near Manchester.
