In view of the attractiVe character of the Victoria Loan, which was for £4,000,000-in 5 per cents. at 974, and also because it indicated a co-ordination between the Commonwealth and the various States in everything pertaining to financial borrowing, it is not surprising that the issue should have been well applied fo-r. A good many other successful loan flotations have also been made during the past ten days, but in the case of 'the Birkenhead Loan for £1,000,000 in 5 per cents. at 101*, the underwriters had to take up a large percentage, the price, it was thought, having been rather too high.
