Average 176 205 899 4,896 From this table, it will be seen that the ratio of increase in the public petitions presented within the last twenty-five years, has been as 24 to 1, and since the close of the war as 6 to 1; that the number received in 1831 alone, was nearly twice, and the number received during the fourth period nearly six times as great, as the number received during the whole of the three preceding periods taken together.
