A better BBC?

From Mr J.G. Cluff Sir: In the same way that the Church of England emptied every church of its constituency — the British middle classes — by hectoring them with sermons that were no more than political rants. the BBC, by reason of the coarse, mindless and pornographic character of most of its programmes, has driven the middle classes away too. Why cannot they make programmes celebrating our rich heritage rather than insulting it or apologising for it? Think of the people about whom programmes could be made who have lived relatively recently: Duff Cooper, Brendan Bracken, lawyers such as F.E. Smith, Edward Carson, Marshall Hall, bankers like Montagu Norman, soldiers like Alanbrooke and Slim, scientists like Henry Tizard, Frederick Lindemann, R.V. Jones, and so on. What do they do? Make a programme about Cecil Rhodes, the apparently sole purpose of which was to prove that he was homosexual.
