Four lads were yesterday sent to prison for twenty-one days,

by Sir Robert Carden, for stealing bacon from a shop near the City Hospice and Soup Kitchen. The prosecutor complained of "the intolerable nuisance" of the Soup Kitchen ; stigmatizing it as "a rendezvous for all the thieves and va- gabond characters of the Metropolis." Sir Robert Carden said he thought the Soup Kitchen "a very dangerous institution."
