Mr. Brown may be correct from the standpoint of engineer when he says that a car should be declutched before the brake is applied, but from the standpoint of the driver it should be remembered that if one is driving fast on a slippery road, it is extremely risky to do so. The closing of the throttle will reduce a speed of say forty miles an hour by half, and while this is happening it is best to apply the brakes gently while the engine is still in gear to avoid skidding.
