Spring Song

I think it would be very nice If things got better day by day And nothing ever rose in price And everyone had higher pay.

If only doctors drank more milk And dairymen were never ill, If bookies never tried to bilk And murderers never tried to kill, If things were moving on the roads And things were peaceful at the docks (Alas, no good the future bodes And brightest hopes the prospect mocks).

If speeches made on gramophones Kept wages up and prices down, It would be nice for Mr. Jones And nicer still for Mr. Brown.
