of The Eccentrics are exactly described by the title, and the author deserves congratulation on the vividness of imagina- tion which has enabled him to fill three volumes with little or no assistance from study of people in real life. Margaret's attempted suicide in the ice-house is quite a masterpiece in the way of an original situation.
