[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR, —I think it my

duty as a parent who has benefited froth the distribution of funds collected by the Spectator to write to thank the Editor for the special effort made by his paper to alleviate to some extent the sufferings among the families of miners. It is heart-breaking to see loved ones suffer, but through the generosity of your readers, timely aid has

been rendered.

I myself have a wife and six children to support and the vouchers I have received have helped to keep the wolf from the door. With a feeling of heartfelt gratitude, on behalf of myself and numerous other families assisted, I 'wish the Spectator continued prosperity.—I am, Sir, &c.,

W. GITTENS.
