Nationalisation

Sir: Lord Robens's comments on Mr Kelf-Cohen's British Nationalisation (January 19) are excellent as far as they go — which is up to the present Tory administration and this country only; but this government's lame duck policies are as nothing compared to the new policies enunciated by the Labour

Party.

It is not just a question of nationalising twenty-five to 100 companies and a number of industries. The Green Paper on the State Enterprise Board proclaims two new doctrines: first; that 100 top companies shall be controlled and second, that there shall be socialists in key positions on boards. Here we have corporatism with a vengeance.

Lord Robens also omits the influence of Europe. Mussolini set the fashion when he created IRI. Labour's State Enterprise Board pays homage to IRI although it will not allow public shareholding and it is interested in the efficient and not the inefficient corn' panies.
