Shorter Notices

This book does not live up to its title. It is not a general survey of the American scene, but a not very acute account of the American political' system ; an enthusiastic, interesting and, in many ways, valuable account of the New Deal, and a less valuable account of American reactions to the war. Mr. Langdon-Davies is most con- vincing when he is reporting his own experiences ; least impressive in -his general reflections. The illustrations are admirable.
