It is stated by an Armagh paper that, after full consideration of the importance of the step, the Duke of Manchester has decided upon placing the numerous schools on his grace's large estates in that county under the National Board of Education. It was generally supposed that the duke was a supporter of the rival system.

It is now stated that the Irish Constabulary is furnishing recruits for the Pope. Specific numbers are mentioned who have resigned, and who have done so that they mar "emigrate "—to Italy. The story requires confirmation. The inducements must be large, indeed, that would tempt an Irish constable to resign.

A party of eleven men, supposed to be members of an illegal society, have been arrested at Dundalk. The nature of their offence is not stated,
