Sra,—Mr. Austin Dobaon's doubt as to whether " nightgown" meant in eighteenth-century parlance "evening dress" can be easily removed. In the ballroom etiquette framed by the masters of the ceremonies in the latter part of the last century ladies are told that it is improper to wear "nightgowns "- sometimes called "French nightgowns "—if they intend to join in the dancing.—I am, Sir, &c., W.
