The Mary Ira : being the Narrative Journal of a

Yachting Expedition from Auckland to the South Sea Islands. By J. K. M. (Newby.)—We do not learn much about New Zealand or the South Pacific from this book, and if it is not read for information, it will certainly not be read for amusement. All the slang talk and strange spelling in which the author indulges, and which no doubt seem very clever to him, will have a depressing effect on his readers, especially as the talk is mere talk, and tells them nothing.
