A GOOD APPOINTMENT.

I consider that the directors of the Great Western Railway have taken a wise step in electing Mr. Charles Hambro as Deputy-Chairman. Mr. Hambro's practical knowledge of finance is unrivalled and his abilities are only equalled by his forceful energy. These are days when the railroads need more than ever that the practical knowledge of railway matters represented by the management should be backed, up by a thoroughly efficient Chairman and Board, and in Sir Robert Horne the company has a Chairman who is keenly alive to the many adverse influences with which our railways have to contend at the present time.
