Sweet William

may be observed, with reference' to the alleged association of Sweet William with the Duke of Cumberland, that the name in Scotland of the common ragwort, "Stinking Willie," has also been widely ascribed to the same origin. The derivation may be as apocryphal as that of Sweet William ; but it will scarcely_ be disputed that it wcald be far more appropriate.—Yours, &c., • ' PATRICK CADELL. Boar's Hill, Oxford. r
