How Wild is Wales ?

It will be interesting to learn how many Welshmen are pleased to learn that Welsh Affairs will be the special concern, in the new Government, of a Scottish lawyer who sits for Liverpool. The reactions of those in Wales who feel, with some justification, that their country is entitled to rather more special treatment at Westminster, on the lines of that already accorded to Scotlaiml, will be particularly instructive. It is true that all the Consens- tive Party promised, in Britain Strong and tree, was that the " title of Minister for Welsh Affairs would be immediately assigned to a member of the Cabinet." But it is still not entirely clear how the responsibilities towards Wales of the present Home Secretary, Sir David Maxwell Fyfe, differ from those of the previous Home Secretary, Mr. Chuter Ede. An explanation—or second thoughts—is badly needed.
