The Message. By Louis Tracy. (Ward, Lock, and Co. 6s.)—

Mr. Tracy always tells a very good story, and in The Message he gives his readers an exciting mixture of high politics and attacks by savages. The sentimental intrigue is not so amusing as the more stirring parts of the book. As a matter of fact, Mr. Tracy is at his beat when describing hairbreadth escapes and adventures, and the most thrilling thing in the novel is the attack near the end on the mission station. Arthur Warden, the hero, has more character than the heroes of most novels of adventure, and it is quite possible to take an interest in him as well as in the heroine.
