SIR,—As a shopkeeper who tries to take an intelligent interest

in the merchandise I buy and sell, I find the Good Housekeeping Institute's guarantee quite use' less as a guide. Their seal does not necessarily repre- sent the best obtainable value, quality or design, only a promise of a refund if the buyer is dissatisfied. These days, any reputable retailer refunds money to a dissatisfied customer. What, then, is the point of the guarantee?—Yours faithfully,
