While we are in complete accord with the views put forward by Mr. lain Macleod I think it only fair to point out for the record that: (a). the first continous casting plant was, in fact, put down by United Steel at their Barrow plant some years' ago; (b) United• Steel were the pioneers in continuous casting research; (c) United Steel built the continuous casting plant at Shelton; (d) the 'Spear' project at Rotherham means that we have there the largest electric arc melting shop in the world--not just Europe; (e) our Samuel Fox branch at Stocksbridge were, in fact, the first steelworks to bulk-produce special steels about ten years ago.
