S*x Behind the Curtain

SIR,—Thank you for printing Mr Tibor Szamuely's reply to Miss Olga Franklin's letter criticising his article on 'S*x Behind the Curtain.' His concluding statement that the smaller size of Soviet families had more to 'do with housing conditions than with' the availability or otherwise of contraceptives puts barn high among our comic writers. And to think I have taken him seriously all this time.

Read as a humorous exercise, his review (August 26) of Mr Burton's Nonalignment was first-class. Long live the Cold War! What would the journalists do without it? N. HOPKIN 28 The Pryors, East Heath Road, London, NW3
