TALES FROM Two POCKETS. By Karel eapek. (Faber and Faber.

7s. 6d.)—A series of ingenious and pleasantly light-hearted tales about crime. Mr. tapek's approach is most refreshing. Even the slightest of the tales, such as Something Shady About the Man, has a friendly, heart-warming quality. Typical of Mr. ('apek's good-humoured irony is the story of the Nobel Prize -winner who exposed an apparent miscarriage of justice, and whose protégé subsequently black- mailed him by threatening to own up that he was not innocent after all.
