Whine and dine

Sir: It is not in the least bit surprising that Mr Buchan is seldom asked out to dinner. The surprise is, given his militantly misogy- nistic attitude, that he is asked out at all CA shameful and insecure existence', 23 April). If he finds the company of women so tedious, he should do himself, and women, a favour, and stay at home.

Alternatively, he could perhaps dine with his editor, who has been known to bemoan his fate at dinner parties, returning home to say that he was 'between somebody's wife and somebody else's wife'.
