-SCOTLAND.

The Town-Council of Glasgow have adopted a report recommending one uniform rate of assessment for the relief of the poor throughout Scot- land, or, in other words, to make the entire country into one parish.

The London, Edinburgh, and Glasgow Steam Shipping Company, have resolved, at a meeting of shareholders, to improve their carrying-plant to such a point that every ship shall accomplish the voyage in three tides. The ships will then sail from Leith Harbour—which is now much im- proved—regularly at high-water.
