The Scotsman reports a most important discovery in telegraphy, which

enables the operator to send two messages in opposite directions through the cable at once. It has been actually used on a section of the Eastern Telegraphs' line, between Lisbon and Gibraltar, and Malta and Alexandria, and can be applied, the operators believe, to much longer sections. We sincerely hope it will, and that the public will at last get communication between England and India at reasonable rates. To business men price

may make little difference, but to the public a rate of for ten words is, practically, prohibitory. We want a" communication at two shillings a word as the maximum rate of charge.
