The court-martial on Captain Carey had, it appears, found him

guilty of "misbehaviour before the enemy," and sentenced him to be cashiered, recommending him, however, strongly to mercy, for five reasons—his good character, the smallness of his escort, its insufficient arms, the other duties assigned him be- side the command of the escort, and the fact that his troops were not regular soldiers, subject to military discipline. This finding has been quashed, and Captain Carey has been released, and restored to his rank.
