• . NEWS OF TETE WEEK.. .

THE Dawes scheme has already been accepted by_the French Government and is certain to be signed by the German Government, even if the Reichstag rejects it. But although we are on the road to peace, no honest person can deny that there is an "alarming number and variety of lions on the path. Trade rivalries and dread- ful anticipations about the industrial results of reparations are already occupying the attention which a few days ago was being bestowed upon the question whether the Dawes scheme would or would not go through. Then, again, there are the questions of the payment of Allied debts, and of French security. We have written of some .of these difficulties in our first leading article, and here we will confine ourselves to giving a summary of the debates in France and Germany. - -• * .* .*, _ *
