The Hebrew Scriptures, Vol. III. Translated by Samuel Sharpe.

(Whitfield, Green, and Son.)—This is the third and concluding volume of Mr. Sharpe's revised translation of the Old Testament. We observe here, as in the preceding volumes, that Mr. Sharpe is at once cautious and accurate ; he carefully abstains from unnecessary alterations, seems averse to hazardous guesses at meaning, and at the same time is able to throw light upon many passages which are obscure in the orthodox version. The book is nicely printed, and the size is convenient ; we should think that many persons would be glad to have a version of the Scriptures which retains the old familiar language, with the errors eliminated, and a good deal of useful information as to dates and places parenthetically introduced.
