The Trail of the Lonesome Pine. By John Fox. (A.

Constable and Co. Cs.)—Mr. Fox has not in this new book quite recaptured the charm of his earlier novel, "The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come," though it certainly provides curious pictures of life in the land which the author is so fond of describing. The feud between the two mountaineer families, the Tollivers and the Falins, runs as a dramatic thread through the whole story, and the account of the trial of Bad Rufe Tolliver is most dramatically given. The book might be pronounced a complete success but for the very high standard of work which the author has set himself.
