A letter despite . . .

Sir: Surely the advantages of the Postal workers' strike cannot go unnoticed by the critics of such affairs.

I myself have not received gas, electricity or water rate bills to upset the slow digestion of two boiled eggs (four minutes) at break- fast each morning. On to the office and no catalogues for dual-purpose plastic rulers have accompanied the usual mountain of morning post. My relatives, however, are in two minds about the whole affair, especially an old uncle who is par- ticularly upset by not being able to complete his pools coupons. I tried to point out that it would mean a saving of 12s 6d per week. He thanked me for my calculation and promptly set off to buy a pigeon! The Post Office, I feel, could now safely adopt a new slogan : 'Some- one somewhere doesn't want a letter from you'. This fast-selling slogan needs no advertising and funds saved could help supplement pay increases.
