Not guilty

Sir: Contrary to Julia Langdon's assertion in her article in The Spectator of 23 January about Andrew Knight (glow Knight forked himself) that I was responsible for the idea of seven-day publishing at the Telegraph, the suggestion had nothing to do with me.

Like other senior members of the Tele- graph editorial and commercial manage- ment, I only agreed to it reluctantly because of Andrew's insistence upon it and his assurances that he would be able and take the time to implement it effectively. These assurances proved not to be reliable and it fell to the continuing management to pick up the pieces.
