The Golden Staircase : Poetry for Children. Chosen by Louey

Chisholm. With Pictures by M. Dibdin Spooner. (T. C. and E. C. Jack. is. 6d. net per vol)—This is published in four volumes, steps, so to speak, making the " Staircase." The poems are graduated so as to suit the comprehension of various ages,—vis., from four to six, six to eight, nine to eleven, and eleven to twelve. It will be observed that this graduation has in three of the four volumes a connexion, the six-year-olds and the eleven-year-olds having twc volumes which they enjoy in common with the elders and youngers. As far as we have been able to examine the choice, it seems to have been judiciously made. Certainly the whole, with about two hundred and sixty pieces, makes a collection of great variety and beauty, altogether a thing to be desired.
