Lord DURHAM will proceed immediately to St. Petersburg, an a

special mission. We repose high and not undeserved con- fidence in his Lordship's talents and integrity. We are sure that he will not fail in the object of his mission from want of pressing it honestly and boldly. The diplomatists of NICHOLAS'S court *ill find him to be composed of very differentreaterials both of lowland heart from the "red tape" protocolizing gentlemen with whom they have long been in the habit of doing business. The reasons which induce the Cabinet to send one of their most dis- tinguished members to the court of Russia, are not of course slight ones. The state of Poland is doubtless one of them. Lord DURHAM will not vacate his seat in the Cabinet, as his absence will not be so prolonged as to render such a step necessary.
