Sons. 5s.)—The author points out truly that Donatello was much more than a mere forerunner of the Renaissance. He was indeed a master who sought to give deep expressiveness by means of sculptured form. It was his mission to extend enormously artistic expression, and his influence was felt over the whole field of art, among the painters as much as among the sculptors. This view is well brought out in the present work.
