The Lost Cause; a New Southern History of the War

of the Coale- ckrates. By Edward A. Pollard. (Triibner and 0o.)—An enormous book, calling itself "the Standard Southern History of the Late War," and breathing extreme sentiments in every line. We cannot recommend it to the English friends of the South. One of its most curious features is that whereas Americans generally write " honor " and favor," Mr. Pollard marks his antagonism to the dominant party by writing "authour," " amhassadour."
