—The writer has undoubtedly gone about the subject in the right way,—that is to say, supplying elementary facts as to the most common laws of Nature, without overburdening the subject with details. It is, indeed, the sort of discourse that would need no effort of the mind to grasp, or closeness of attention. Whether or not it will cause that craving for mental discipline, is doubtful. We rather think that most readers hanker after information alone ; still, the disciplinary stage might come later.
