The news from Spain is better. General Primo de Rivera

after several lapses from grace which were dis- appointing to his friends here is now at pains to restore his good name as the most human and moderate of dictators. On Friday, March 22, no attempt was made to suppress a motion in the National Consultative Assembly standing in the name of seven professors of the University of Madrid. In highly judicious terms these " intellectuals " appealed for prompt action and a reconsideration of the Government's drastic measures. The sequel to the Minister of Education's hint of a " solution of concord and compromise " is the appoint- ment of a Royal Commission, bearing no resemblance to a court-martial and, in fact, including those same professors who had appealed, one of whom is a Socialist.
