The anniversary dinner of the noblemen and gentlemen educated at

Barrow School is to be held this day week ; and the Tories, in defiance of precedent and good taste, are making it a party affitir. This is evi- dent from the fact, that not only is Sir Romer PEEL to be Chairman, (to which, under ordinary circumstances, there could be no objection), but out of the sixteen Stewards, we see the name of only one known Liberal, Lord POLTIMORE. All the others seem to be Tories, cer- tainly all whose names are of any mark. Among them, we see Lords VERULAM, ASHLEY, GRIMSTON, and RIPON, Mr. YATES PEEL, Mr. ARCHIBALD MACDONALD, and Mr. MAURICE FITZGERALD. We know that not only the Liberal alumni of _Harrow, but many decent Tories, are disgusted with this attempt to poison with party politics what was intended to be a kindly meeting of old schoolfellows, glad for a time at least to escape from political contention. But this is part of the system of agitation which the Tories have set on foot, and which is penetrating, chiefly through their agency, into the recesses of private life. They will soon have cause to rue the game they are playing.
