We omitted to mention last week that the University of

London has asked for, and accepted, a new charter, empowering it to test the education of girls. At present the test is to be applied only to what may be called the school education of girls, and the certificate to be granted under it is intended to be equivalent to a testimonial that the owner has been as well taught, and knows as much, as lads who pass the matriculation examination of the University of London,—which means a good deal more than the Cambridge " Little-Go." Whether anything equivalent to a degree,—i. e., to attesting a sound College education, —can, or will, be offered under this charter to young women, we cannot say. At present, at all events, that is not under contemplation.
