The Fair Lavinia and Others. By Mary E. Wilkins-Freeman. (Harper

and Brothers. 6s.)—This book contains a collection of short studies of girls all living some hundred years or so ago. The analysis of New England life is given with all the delicacy of touch which readers are accustomed to associate with the name of " Miss Wilkins," and the portraits of her heroines are both lifelike and delightful. The book possesses great charm and freshness. Perhaps the prettiest of the stories is " Amarina's Roses."
