A monument to SHAKSPEARE has for some time been in

contemplation ; and a controversy is, we see, at present going on in respect of its propriety. The Herald objects to a public sub- scription, but has no objection to any one person paying for the erection. If one man may without impropriety contribute to sneh a purpose, we think it would be difficult to prove that two may not. SHAKSPEARE requires no monument ; but if he is to have one, there can be no reason why every, man in England may not join in the expense of it if he pleases.
